FR: Basically I want real mouse tools and an alternative to this convoluted right-click-to-arm the toolbar button thingamajiggy. And in the FR I reveal just how I imagine that to become possible!

In reaper 4 you have the ability to have actions that change the default mouse click to anything you want so you really can create toolbar buttons now :) Although unless you only have use of the right hand mouse modifiers are much much faster! ;) I came from Nuendo, protools and logic and I find being able to set mouse modifiers up for things I use to have to change tools for is powerful once you get use to it :)

waitaminute i don't think i get it at all. are you trying to tell me that there's a way to do it differently that is more efficient than having tools that are selectable via keyboard shortcuts? because i can't see a way to use those actions to split an item with a left click. i mean i know i can set the mouse modifiers for clicking to whatever i want, but as far as changing it on the fly to different custom actions? i don't see a way to do that.
